I’ve always had a passion for animals, especially dogs. Growing up, we didn’t have dogs around until Scout - when I was 14. From the moment I had convinced my parents to allow our family to have a dog, I set about learning everything I could about canine behaviour, body language and breeds. Our family are now the proud owners of a whole pack of pomskies, head over to meet the pack page to learn all about them. They each inspire me every day to keep pursuing my goals for pomskies.
We needed to find the right breed to suit my whole family, there is 6 of us, my parents, my 2 brothers and my sister. My family and I love wolves and huskies, they are stunning with independent natures, who want to work alongside you and not just rely on your every command. However a wolf or a husky was just not realistic for our family, due to their size and energy requirements. When we first heard about pomskies, we couldn’t believe it, it seemed so odd! Nevertheless, the more we researched, the more we fell in love with the breed. The temperament and looks of a husky in a more manageable size! We were hooked! And once we found Scout, we knew we had made the right decision.
Once we had Scout, I knew I wanted to follow a career in animal care so at College I studied a Level 3 qualification in Animal Management. Which I loved! I then went on to study Companion Animal Behaviour as a Level 5 degree, this was an amazing course as I was able to specialise in Canines. I also applied for any courses I could including: pet first aid, puppy needs (training, walking, feeding etc), dog body language and training courses. I have now completed my Level 3 in Dog Breeding, Litter Socialisation and welfare to ensure I am raising my puppies with up to date research and with the current highest standards. For the last 5 years, I have dedicated all of my working career into different jobs within the companion animal care industry, including veterinary practices, doggy daycares, boarding kennels and cattery, puppy classes and my current job role as a dog walker.
We had our first litter in 2018 - the Sci-Fi litter. This is the litter Dutch was born from. Dutch is my soulmate in dog form, there isn't a better term for it. She is the reason I have continued my knowledge, and the reason I am inspired every day to be a better person. She has comforted me in stressful and worrying situations, she has pushed me out of my comfort zone and has loved me unconditionally. She is the reason that Gems Pomskies Adventures continues as I want everyone to have their very own heart dog.
When I set up Gems Pomskies Adventures in 2018, I had no idea what to call it. But my name ‘Gemma’ means ‘Precious Gemstone’ in latin. It has really resonated with me, as I believe all pomskies are precious gems, especially our gorgeous pack. So Gems Pomskies it was. We are quite an adventurous family and we enjoy taking the dogs out for woodland walks, going to local pubs with them and taking them to pomsky play dates organised by Gemma’s Pomsky Play Dates UK - this online community is the fuel that sparked my passion for pomskies.
I am so thrilled to be working with some of the best pomsky breeders in the UK as part of the UK Pomsky Kennel Club to continue this amazing breed and stabilise it in the years to come. I cannot wait to bring happiness to new families and welcome them into the Gems Pomskies Family. My promise is to always be there to support everyone, to guide and reassure those who come to me to the best of my ability. The memories and experiences I have already had will always be cherished - seeing so many puppies flourish into amazing dogs makes my heart sing. I am grateful to be able to follow along with all my puppies journeys, be apart of their lives and support them for their entire life.
My responsibility as a breeder is to ensure my puppies have the best start in life, this includes giving them the tools to be able to handle whatever life throws at them. We love a bomb proof puppy! This starts with stimulation and socialisation beginning at just 3 days, creating positive associations. Our pups leave us with the tools to happily transition into their forever homes, having been exposed to: crates, cars, people, dogs, other species, different textures, scents… the list goes on.
